| At Stoney Mesa Winery, wine is the
product of passion and love for farming.
Each bottle is hand crafted by
a family who believes in the beauty of Colorado
Wine as
much as the beauty of the landscape, because the
making of a fine wine is something to
admire. It requires good grapes, a bit of luck with the weather and all the patience and care a winemaker can
devote.

Bret
Neal (Right) has handled the winegrowing
since 1993 and winemaking at Stoney Mesa Winery
since 1999, when Ron Neal his father (Left) handed the
winemaking responsibilities over to him.
Living on the family vineyard and winery property
in Cedaredge he has studied in enology
and viticulture at UC Davis, he strives to bring
out the best in Colorado. Bret is
dedicated to making wines that belong in the
company of the states finest. Just finishing
up a stint as a Director of the
RMAVV, a local wine
industry organization, Bret comments, "I really want to focus on our wine
quality, I feel we have so much potential in Colorado wine."
Throughout his career, Bret has pursued the
highest wine quality through experimentation,
and a belief in Sustainable
Viticulture. As a result, Stoney Mesa Winery has
been on the leading edge in viticulture in Delta
County.
Stoney Mesa Winery stands on the historic Bull
Mesa, one of the oldest homesteads in the
Cedaredge area. Bret has managed and learned from
the vineyard, and has been there since the very
first planting in 1990. Said Bret Neal, "Our newer
vineyards benefit from what we've learned in
caring for the original vines."
The winery's new addition brings to life a
families vision to create a winemaking facility
capable of creating some of Colorado's most
appreciated wines. Its modern facility utilizes
gentle fruit handling, temperature controlled
fermentations and small lot red wine production.
Stoney Mesa pioneered the production of wine
grapes and winemaking in the area. The 2002 Stoney
Mesa Winery Cabernet Sauvignon is an
inaugural wine from the new Cellar and due to be
released in Spring, 2005. |
